The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Department of Psychology, in the Faculty of Arts, is currently accepting applications for a 1 year fixed-term full-time (35 hours/week) position for a Clinical Research Coordinator in the area of pediatric traumatic brain injury. The position will report to the Professor of Psychology, and Program Lead for the University of Calgary Integrated Concussion Research Program.
This position requires multi-site travel, with 75% of time spent at the Alberta Children's Hospital and the remainder spent in Edmonton. Workdays may vary in length and may occasionally include evening and weekend hours as well as regional, provincial, national, and international travel for investigator meetings, pediatric traumatic brain injury events, and educational opportunities. The position is internally funded, and may be extended on a year-to-year basis based on continued funding and job performance.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Responsible for ethics submission and CHREB communication
Ensure proper documentation is in place during conduct of trials
Oversee management of clinical trials
Research budget information is gathered, analyzed and compiled accurately within timeline
Research budget allocations, revenues and expenditures are administered effectively for the duration of the study
Liaison between clinicians, researchers and team members to ensure that projects are managed effectively, on time, on budget, and are aligned with the overall objectives
Stakeholders /clients are courteously provided with information and advice about our program
Research undertaken by the Coordinator is managed effectively, on time and on budget
Proactively anticipates problems and develops preventative solutions; helps to establish quality performance standards
Fully involved in long range and strategic planning of research projects
Develop and initiate improvement changes to research procedures and practices
Deliver engaging, informative, well-organized presentations
Facilitate team, stakeholder and client meetings effectively
Resolve and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion
Provide project management mentorship to others on the team.
Make recommendations to managers/PI and project PI on development of policies and procedures.
Make recommendations to managers/PI and project PI on long range budget planning and allocations
Literature review, collation and summary of relevant manuscripts
Extract data elements from medical records- paper and electronic
Analyze data using Excel, Access and appropriate statistical software
Assist in preparation of manuscripts
Assist in preparation of supporting materials for grant proposals and funding requests
Anticipate problems and develop preventative solutions
Assist in developing patient databases and registries
Qualifications / Requirements:
3-5 years of clinical research experience
Applicants with BA or BSc; strongly prefer Master's degree in psychology or a health care-related field
Minimum 2 years' experience in a health care related research setting. Preferably a pediatric health care setting.
Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle
Expertise in research coordination and management with background knowledge of neuropsychology and/or neuroscience.
Proficiency with computer software for writing and presentations, databases, database design, and electronic medical record programs
Tri-council ethics training
Understanding of the University environment including PeopleSoft and E-fin would be a major asset.
Superior organizational, time management, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work well in a team environment and independently (with minimal direction)
Be resourceful, innovative, creative, and strategic in problem solving
Be proficient in strategic planning, budget allocation and forecasting
Effectively deal with multiple simultaneous priorities in an effective, efficient manner

Demonstrate strong client service skills
